I think I have wasted alot of my life as a Christian focusing on doing all the good and right things. What I'm realizing lately is that I have not invested much quality time in reading my Bible and getting to know Jesus. Jesus is KEY. He really is. I am the type of person who needs to read the story of Mary and Martha everyday. :)
"Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but few things are necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.
I want to make time with Jesus as Mary did.

Renae, I find myself struggling with this too. When I was in Colorado, I went with my brother to his Bible study. There, the leader talked about the Greek word that the NIV has translated into "know" or "knowledge". The Greek word, Ginosko (I think), was more closely tied to experience than knowledge.
It's easy to feel like we're living as good Christians when we know God on an intellectual level alone, or follow his doctrines as Martha did. But God wants us to know him, intimately, experientially (have gone through things with him), to yearn for HIM (not the feeling of superiority that can come with following his commands) the way Mary did. To know Jesus personally and have his wisdom and love permeate through me: this is what I want. Not some head knowledge of who he is and what he's done and why I'm supposed to believe. Yes, I need to learn to love him as Mary did.
ps. it was good to see your beautiful face on Sunday! We'll have to hang out more over Christmas break though. I'd love to hear about Indiana orally.
aww, Tricia, i never got back to you about this comment! :( Im so sorry!! Wow. This one slipped by me. Thanks for sharing about the greek word. I really want to study more of the greek translations. This story of Mary and Martha always challenges me personally in a big way.
